TORAH RESCUE FUND

90-year-old Polish Torah scroll

In keeping with B'nai B'rith's 140 year tradition of "Mitzvot for the Community”, we are seeking donations to save and restore this 90-year-old Polish Torah scroll. The scroll is in need of cleaning and repair, and when completed will be certified Kosher.

Our plan is to raise enough funds for the purchase and restoration of the Scroll so that it will be available for the mountain Jewish congregations of Aspen, Vail, and Summit County. We are thrilled to rescue this Torah, and do a double mitzvah by helping an individual in need by purchasing his Torah and then making it available to the mountain congregations.

Thus far we have been fortunate to have received advance donations from B'nai Vail members, by word of mouth, prior to this official announcement. Todah Rabah to B'nai Vail for their generosity in being the lead donor for our Torah Rescue & leading by example.

Our initial plan is to hold a Torah Dedication Service on June 25, 2011 at the beautifully restored Temple Israel in Leadville, which will coincide with the 15th Annual Leadville Cemetery Clean Up.

B'nai B'rith will loan their Torah, to be kept on site in Temple Israel in Leadville, and make it available for the Jewish congregations of Aspen, Vail & Summit County whenever needed.

To achieve our goal of purchasing and restoring our Torah, we must raise thousands of dollars before our June deadline. Please consider a donation for our Torah mitzvah.
